Highlands Inn Carmel, California Highlands Inn The Sunset Lounge HIghlands Inn The Lobby   The Hyatt Carmel Highlands is a picturesque retreat overlooking the Big Sur coast with epic views of the Pacific Ocean. Guests are frequently treated to spectacular sunsets and seasonal whale watching from the lodge and ocean view guestrooms. Located in the main lodge is the Pacific’s Edge award winning restaurant with breath taking views to compliment the exquisite cuisine and local wine selections. The Challenge The primary challenge was to seamlessly integrate the lighting in to the architectural to compliment the interiors without diminishing the ability to enjoy the panoramic views. The Design Lighting was carefully hidden into architectural details or concealed from glare using accessories to hide the light sources. This also mitigates reflections from light sources into the large expansive windows. In the restaurant, lighting can be adjusted to focus on individual tables to highlight food presentations without casting unflattering shadows on diner’s faces. A Gem on the Coast  Award Winning Project was awarded the GE Edison Award of Excellence for lighting design.  Budget Project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.  Practical Landscape lighting is bright enough for safely walking the site at night, but is subtle enough not to interfere with star gazing from a deck or hot tub. LUCE Restaurant San Francisco, California LUCE Restaurant LUCE Restaurant LUCE Restaurant LUCE Restaurant LUCE is an upscale downtown San Francisco restaurant located in the Intercontinental Hotel. It offers artisanal, New American cuisine with global influences. LUCE offers a fine dining experience for hotel guests and locals alike. The Challenge The name LUCE-meaning “Light” in Italian set the tone to make lighting part of the overall design and dining experience. The Design Adjustable recessed lighting highlight table tops to feature fine food while other accent lights create a play of light and shadow across the window draperies and flower arrangements. LED strip lighting lines the inside of the wine displays where the lighting creates a festive sparkle off the bottles and chrome framing. Clusters of decorative illuminated spheres floating through the space add a playful lighting element. Hotel Paradox

Hotel Paradox Santa Cruz, California Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox Hotel Paradox is an upscale boutique hotel in downtown Santa Cruz, CA located approximately one mile from the beach and approximately five miles from the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. This natural connection inspired the hotel to provide guests with a unique experience that explores an urban forest set inside a beach town. That’s the paradox of Hotel Paradox The Challenge Lighting design for this hotel had to be completed within a very short and demanding time frame. In fact, much of the lighting was actually developed during construction and installed within days to meet deadlines. The Design Lighting design for the project was a creative collaboration between Luminae Souter Associates, a motivated client, and the prestigious San Francisco based interior design firm Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates. The majority of lighting is highly efficient LED sources that provide general lighting, feature lighting and task lighting. The design objective was to make the lighting  homogenous with the architecture and interiors. Small aperture square trim less down lights were used throughout to compliment the clean geometric lines of the spaces. Textured surfaces and fores murals were accented with LED graze lighting for maximum enhancement. A Forest in a Beach Town  Energy Efficient Because of the extensive use of high quality LED lighting the overall hotel lighting efficiency is approximately 68 lumens per watt with power density less than 1 w/sqft so the project easily complied with rigid California Title 23 requirements.  Timely Design and construction was completed within a few months. ...

The LEED Platinum Certified hotel is committed to environmental stewardship and features intimate accommodations and attentive services in the heart of Napa Valley. It features personalized in-room spa treatments, a restaurant and lounge featuring a seasonal- fresh menu, and stunning venues for unforgettable destination weddings and special occasions. The Challenge The primary challenge of this project was to design and develop a world class resort that would achieve the highest LEED certification level possible without compromising the aesthetics, comfort, safety or overall guest experience. The whole design team coordinated efforts early on to work towards this goal. The lighting was a key design element and opportunity to gain LEED points as well as compliment the overall interior and exterior design. LED decorative pendants and high efficiency dimmable fluorescent were used extensively to illuminate the main and private dining areas. The Design The lighting design included all interior and exterior spaces of the main lodge, restaurant, lounge, meeting spaces, spa and guestrooms. Lighting design included critical coordination with the interior design team, architect and client in selecting architectural and decorative lighting fixtures that integrate and compliment the overall design. Lighting was designed to provide appropriate light levels, enhance the architecture and interiors, add high quality color rendition and to create an overall pleasing guest experience while exceeding required California Title 24 energy code restrictions and regulations. Hotel Keen Palo Alto, California Hotel Keen Lobby Hotel Keen Guest Room Hotel Keen Guest Room Hotel Keen Nestled in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, CA, the Keen is a modern boutique hotel catering to the traveler on the go. It is centrally located within short walking distance to many fine restaurants and shopping. The hotel offers beautiful accommodations that are fresh, stylish and functional. Inspired by the high-tech business of Silicon, the hotel offers state-of-the-art communications access for guests to stay connected while on the go. Hotel Keen offers a guest experience that is innovative and on the cutting edge. The Challenge The project was a major make over of a small out dated residential hotel into a sleek new modern boutique hotel for traveling techies. Original spaces were Closter phobic in size and layout and not suitable for a quality guest experience. The objective was to visually maximize the spaces through creative use of architecture, interior design and lighting. The Design The overall design included opening up smaller spaces by combing adjacent rooms and raising ceiling heights. Lighter colors were used to make the spaces seem larger and lighting was designed to illuminate both horizontal and vertical surfaces to visually expand the spaces. Ceilings in the corridors were painted a dark contrasting color to the walls to make them seem wider and blue LED accent lights add a playful nod to technology.
